Friday, April 23:
Germanfest – This Bavarian-themed event kicks off Friday and also takes place Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy music, food, a nail-hammering contest (?) and more. Admission is $6 on Fri and Sun, $10 on Sat. This all takes place in Muenster, about 70 miles north of the Metroplex. Visit germanfest.net for info.

Free Kids’ Workshop – stop by your local Lowes store at 10 a.m. and have your kids build a free wooden bird feeder. RSVP at www.lowesbuildandgrow.com.
Free craft workshop – Kids can go to local Michaels craft stores from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and make a free Mother’s Day gift out of Pluffy clay. While supplies last, so get there promptly.

Cowtown Farmers Market – buy local goods at this weekly market, located in the Edelweiss restaurant parking lot in Fort Worth. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Air Show – the Fort Worth JRB will hold a free air show Sat and Sunday, where you can enjoy flyovers by Air Force jets, civilian aerobatics, and more. The doors open at 9 a.m. and the flyovers start at 11 a.m.; at 4 p.m., there will be a concert by James Otto and Lonestar.
Hamster Ball Derby – go to the Fort Worth Petco (465 Sherry Ln.) at 2 p.m. to watch hamsters race in plastic balls. If you have a speedy hamster, you can also register to enter the derby, for free, and get a chance to win prizes. 20 percent off coupons will be distributed on derby day. KidToons at Studio Movie Grill – go by the Arlington, Lewisville or Plano locations to see a kids’ movie for just $2 per person. Shows start at 11 a.m. This month’s feature is a Care Bears movie. To buy tickets, visit www.studiomoviegrill.com.

National Day of Puppetry – Come to the Fort Worth Central Library (500 W. Third St) from 1-5 p.m. to celebrate the National Day of Puppetry with free puppet shows, puppet displays, puppet crafts and more. Performances begin at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Ice Worlds film – go to the UTA Planetarium at 3:30 p.m. to see a film on the ecosystems in Arctic and Antarctic regions. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for kids and seniors. The planetarium is at 700 Planetarium Drive in Arlington.
