Review & Giveaway: Sunology Natural SunscreenIf you live in Texas, then you know: The sun can be brutal here. So I was excited when the folks at Sunology Sunscreen told me they had a product that could protect our skin from the sun, with mostly natural ingredients. They sent me a couple of packs of their SPF 50 Body Formula to check out, and I’m going to tell you about my experience here.

I’m a runner, so I spend a lot of time outside, and I really need something that provides good protection. But most of the sunscreens available out there have bad-news chemicals like oxybenzone – an ingredient that the Environmental Working Group rates as having “high” amounts of health concerns. Sunology, meanwhile, uses zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as its active ingredients – they rate much lower on the EWG’s harm scale.

So how did the sunscreen work? The first thing I noticed when I put it on was that it was fragrance-free, which is a bonus: I hate smelly sunscreen. I also noticed that it was super thick. It felt more like glue than like lotion going on, and I had to use a little extra effort to get it all over my face. No matter, though – the true test would be out on my run.

I used it on a day that was cool, but still sunny. I noticed during my run that my sweat wasn’t running into my eyes as much.  I reached up to my forehead at one point and noticed that the sunscreen had kind of mixed with the sweat and formed a kind of goo, probably because of how thick it was. It sounds gross, but it was actually good: my sweat wasn’t running into my eyes so I didn’t have any need to reach up and wipe my face with my shirt or my hands. That inevitably leads me to wipe my face with my hands, and THAT leads to my sunscreen coming off. Which usually leads to a sunburn.

When I got back, most of the sunscreen was still hanging on to my face, and sure enough, I had no sunburn. I give this product two thumbs up! And now, one lucky Fort Worth on the Cheap reader will be able to try Sunology for themselves. Fill out the form below – I’ll select a winner at random on Monday, Nov. 17 to receive two 0.07-oz samples of the SPF 50 Body Formula. Each one is good for about a face’s worth of application. Good luck!
