Dallas Fort Worth has a lot of great museum exhibits lined up for August 2021. This month’s list includes a talk on the 1936 Berlin Olympics, a new exhibit at the Amon Carter Museum, a museum tour for kids and so much more!

The Olympics are in full swing in Tokyo and our excitement has reached a whole new level. But there are long, detailed histories around this competition that we perhaps know not of. A talk set up this August at the holocaust museum in Dallas Fort Worth will take audiences through the history of the Berlin Olympics of 1936 which were held in Nazi Germany at a time when antisemitism and anti-Black racism were rife. Author of the book Nazi Games: The Olympics of 1936, David Clay Large will conduct this session and examine the racial politics and theories of race that defined this edition of the Olympics.

Nasher Sculpture Center: Kids Club at the Perot Museum

This event for Nasher Kids Club members will take children through a tour of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Kids can discover the mysteries of space, enter a world of scientific wonder and learn more about dinosaurs, DNAs and even sports! Get the kids’ curiosities racing with this complimentary tour of the eleven permanent exhibit halls at Perot that showcase everything from natural history to the solar system.

At this museum hour, participants can explore the connections between certain works of literature and their relationship with visual art. This August, the book that will be talked about is the 2008 work by Nicole Mones, The Last Chinese Chef: A Novel. The creative hour is about discussing the themes in this book, their links with art and through special presentations, drawing meaningful insights from the coming together of two different forms of expression.

The Modern Museum Fort Worth: The Fort Worth Circle – Slow Art Tour

This monthly event offered by the museum is a slow tour of the works from its collections. For August, this event will explore the signature creations of those artists who were active in Fort Worth roughly from 1943 to 1958 and were closely associated with The Modern. These artists were instrumental in shaping the city’s appreciation for modernism which can now be seen in museum as well private collections. Come and take a look at the works of those artists who changed the way the city perceived art.

This new exhibit coming up in Dallas Fort Worth in August will present the museum’s latest acquisition made by the 19th-century landscape painter Thomas Moran. Be the first to see the artist’s long-lost water color Mount Superior which explores the ‘unspoiled landscapes’ of America during an era of urban development and expanding railroad routes. What Moran’s painting depicts is his idealized vision of Mount Superior against the backdrop of the colonization and industrialization of the West and the losing out of such idyllic spots.

Dallas Museum of Art: Focus On: Henry Ossawa Tanner

A new exhibit coming up in Dallas Fort Worth this August will pair two works by the acclaimed 19th century artist, Henry Ossawa Tanner that have undergone extensive conservation treatment at the museum. Not only has this conservation effort resulted in providing more insights on the American artist’s work but has also revealed how he pushed the limits of traditional techniques and explored color theory using contrasting primary colors. The two pictures on show are The Thankful Poor and Christ and His Mother Studying the Scriptures. This exhibit is a can’t miss for art enthusiasts!
