As the weekend gets closer, here are a few free retail store events to keep in mind, for you and your family:

Michaels – stop by your local Michaels craft store on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 1-3 p.m. for a free Wilton demo. Learn how to make fun Halloween treats.

Bass Pro Shops – Come by the Bass Pro store in Grapevine on Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a free family event sponsored by the Professional Bull Riders. Kids can do stick bull riding, face painting, coloring and even make a free leather keychain. From 1-2 p.m., you can meet a real professional bull rider.

Williams-Sonoma – On Sunday, Oct. 17, Williams-Sonoma stores will hold “From Tough to Tender,” a free cooking technique class that will teach you how to transform tough cuts of meat like brisket into tender dishes. Reservations for this class are requested; call the University Park Village store in FW at 817-334-0009 to RSVP.

Home Depot – The Home Depot has three free DIY workshops (for grownups) this Saturday, Oct. 16: One on decorative painting solutions, one on decorative flooring, and another on how to save energy in your home. Find out more and RSVP here.

American Girl Store – stop by the American Girl Store in Dallas (13464 Dallas Pkwy, at the Dallas Galleria) on Friday, Oct. 15 at noon for a free Bitty Twins Animal Safari event. Girls ages 3 and up can punch out and color paper animals to take home. Or come by the store on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. for Lanie’s Nature Activity Day. At this free event, girls 8 and up can sprout their very own “mini gardens” in a seed-starting cup, make a seed label for the garden, and complete a garden scavenger hunt.
