I won’t lie. I’ve only recently started taking my reusable shopping bags with me to the grocery store. But now that I’ve started, it’s become a kind of addiction. I like to watch the huge bundle of plastic bags under my counter grow smaller and smaller (I use them for bathroom trash can liners). Now, two companies have made it easier to make the switch to reusable bags, by providing them FREE. The first one: Kroger, which has launched its “Design a Reusable Shopping Bag” contest. Visit www.designareusablebag.com anytime until May 15 and create a bag design, then enter your Plus Card number, and you’ll get a free reusable bag the next time you shop at Kroger. (99 cent maximum value.)
There’s also another option, which requires a little more work but is cool nonetheless: Produce company Earthbound Farms is giving free bags to the first 10,000 people that sign their “Sustain Yourself, Sustain the Planet” pledge every week. These bags run out quickly, so click this link early Monday morning to claim yours!
Last, but not least: Brookshire’s, a grocery store found in many smaller North Texas towns, is giving away free bags on Earth Day – that’s Wednesday, April 22. Shop at Brookshire’s from 5 to 9 p.m. and spend at least $25, and your groceries will be bagged in reusable bags. (Okay, so this isn’t a total freebie, but if you shop there anyway, you can time your visit to take advantage of this offer.)
