PhotobucketGive your Christmas celebration a Victorian flair this Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Fort Worth Central Library – from 1-5 p.m., they’re hosting “Dickens of a Holiday,” a free festival for all ages. This year’s event features presentations by Andrea Warren, author of the children’s book, Charles Dickens and the Street Children of London, presentations by the Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir, the Brass Works Quartet and the Dulcimer Players as well as carriage rides, a photograph with a live reindeer, face painters and balloon artists.  Chapters Bookstore at the Central Library will be offering hot beverages and selling children’s books and other gift items.

A new feature this year is the festival’s short-film selection, which is a seldom-seen television version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol – retitled The Christmas Carol  for its 1949 broadcast. Vincent Price narrates this fascinating relic of early-day commercial television.

The carriage rides are happening at the main entrance on 3rd Street, and reindeer photos are at the Youth Center. Both happen until 4 p.m. Tickets for these activities can be picked up at the library beginning at noon. Face-painting and balloon artistry will occur from 2-4 p.m. For a complete schedule of events, visit the library page here.

The Fort Worth Public Library’s Central branch is at 500 W. 3rd St. in Fort Worth.
